Patras - September 10th, 2004
PRACTICAL INFORMATION

This page is permanently enriched.
You will gradually find many information to prepare your venue

AEA regrets not to be able to support travel and accomodations of the participants. They have to book their hostels and transport themselves. However, you would find useful links and tourist informations to help you to organize your travel.

Location of the conference

The conference will take place in the campus of the Patras University.
The University campus is 7 km East of the city of Patras in the area of Rion. It was founded in 1964 and is the third largest University of the country which consists of five Schools with twenty-two Departments.

Transport :

From Patras you can join the campus of the University

By car

The University is about 8 km from the city of Patras. Coming from the centre of Patras, follow Korinthou Street to its end. Then, you should follow Panepistimiou Street and after the indoor athletic stadium "Dimitrios Tofalos" you turn on the right, following the signs.

By bus

The Number 6 bus for Rion, which leaves from the bus terminal that is located downtown, runs every ten to fifteen minutes and connects the University with the city. Since some buses go directly to the town of Rion, bypassing the campus, it is advisable to ask before boarding if the specific bus goes to Panepistimio (University).

By taxi (the best solution)

There are about one thousand taxis available in the city of Patras. Many taxis work on a 24-hour basis. You can hire a taxi at a taxi stand. Taxis can also be requested by telephone using one of the following numbers 1300, 2610 346700, 2610 450000

From home to Patras

Patras is easily accessible from Europe through Italy. The city of Patras is connected daily by sea with the following ports of Italy: Ancona, Brindisi, Bari, Venice and Trieste.

For those who will arrive by air in Athens Airport "El.Venizelos", Patras is accessible by car, coach or train.

All type of transportation from the airport
Now the subway connects the Aiport with the centre of the city of Athens.(single fare 8€)
Taxi from Airport El Venizelos to the bus or train station costs about 30€
Taxi from Airport El Venizelos to Patras costs about 200€.

From the Main Rail Station of Athens, there are regular trains to Patras every couple of hours. The ticket costs € 10 per person one way and € 17,80 aller retour. (time table)
In Athens, the main coach station, called KTEL Peloponissou, is located on 100 Kiffissou Str., with departures approximately every 45 minutes. The ticket costs € 12,25 per person one way and € 23 aller retour.
Upon arrival at the Patras Coach or Rail Station the easiest way to reach the University or the hotel is by taxi.

Flights

Athens Airport "El.Venizelos" is connected with all european cities.
It is thus easy to find a flight.
But you must know that the "normal" price for a direct flight (aller retour), for example from Paris or London, does not have, about scheduled flight, being higher than €250 or €300, according to the company and the selected agency.

Accomodation :

It's very difficult to make a on line registration for a room in Patras; in the best of the cases, you will have to ask before by email; it's better to phone (Phone directory in english).

We only suggest you two hotels (to try to stay together) one is in down town (but you must take a taxi or a bus to go to the conférence), the other is close to the bridge of Rion (and you can go by foot to the campus). This two hotel cost approximately 100 € by night (double).
